Carla G. - Million Looks and DVF Spring Posts.

Million Looks

Just thought this website will really be useful in following classes! I stumbled upon it researching for the Trends and Concepts book. It provides fashion trends , news, and events. Enjoy !

Spring 2011 DVF

I couldn't wait to get on style.com and look up the previous shows from Fashion Night. I found that for Spring 2011 pattern play is a huge trend and very different prints! Diane von Furstenberg as she is known for her colorful prints, is really setting the pattern play trend for the upcoming season. Check out the full collection, I really thought every piece was innovative and are definitely going to set trends!

Fur

I think a big trend we are going to see this Fall/Winter are fur bags. Both real and faux, we're seeing it all over the runway. I noticed the trend started in Paris and is now carrying over to the U.S. The bags look chic and classic, and I think it will start to trickle down to stores like H&M and I've already seen it in stores like TopShop and Mango. Camouflage

It seems like camouflage prints are in again. I started to notice the trend on the streets on New York when I visited last weekend, and I remembered Gene stating that camouflage always comes back when we are at war. They started making the print more innovative by making different shades, combining it with different patterns, and even making camouflage printed shoes and bags. Michael Kors and Prada are just a few of the designers who are following the camo trend. Kristina Reyes

Leggings are not just Leggings

I've started to notice that leggings are starting to be more diversified. A lot of designers are added sequins, studs, zippers, leather, you name it. It seems like every designer is innovating leggings in their own way. BCBG, Gareth Pugh, Les Chiffoniers, Top Shop are just a few that are a part of the legging craze. I think women are starting to replace denim with leggings.

I was surprised at how wearable the Yohji Yamamoto collection was. This collection is right on trend. To name a few, Yamamoto's collection has high-rise pants, a short blazer, skinny and short lapels. Achromatic is the name of the game, cant go wrong here.

This look by Jen Kao is soft like loungewear, but too beautiful to wear in. The muted colors work well together. Although Jen Kao is an American designer, there is definitely a Japanese influence, with attention to detail.

Retail Analysis

I was checking out different looks for autumn and I can across these different stores in which we talked about in class. Zara used a lot of tailored pieces, full skirts, and thick belts. Mango used full silhouettes with a lot of tailored jackets. Topshop used shorts, 80's sweaters and military jackets for the fall. I enjoyes looking at how they were put together in the actual store.

Luxury Lingerie

Andres Sarda and his daughter Nuria are making trends in lingerie. Their collections focus on outerwear as underwear. The lingerie looks like garments that can be worn outdoors, only if they were not sheer fabrics. They are inspired by actual garments, being very colorful and detailed, but not losing its femininity and delicacy.

Fashion Show on the Lawn, Summer 2010
