Comfy Egg Chair

The world is doing everything with organic and Eco friendly materials. Do this Egg Chair in the current event? I guess so. At least it is reminding me about the farm, the chicken and the egg. The designer is using the egg shape to create this artistic and futuristic chair. I feel safe and reborn when sitting on it. I would definitely want one of that in my house.

Mustard

The mustard color we have been talking about in class has been showing up a lot in girls fashion. These outfits come from forever 21. So it's not only high fashion that's keeping up with this trendy color but some lower budget stores as well.

steampunk couture

This is a video by steampunk couture selling their spring line. The main things of note are that steampunk is basically Victorian meets SF/punk and has a heavy emphasis on gears and metal and etc..

many of these same trends are in the trend setters we study in class, even if these designs are not "our" trends, it slike looking at what happens when a trend goes in a different direction.

archeological jewelry find

while hardly cutting edge (650 years old) this find has some lovely historical pices, and will likely lead to a resurgence of interest by modern jewelry makers in some of these styles.

even if it turns out to be a fraud, i doubt it, the splash of news coverage will lead to these designs being all over the news, especially in Austria.

when something interesting hits the news like this you can expect a few designers to use it as inspiration. i expect to see the broach pattern on fabric, as it is not that far off trend right now... i also expect, given both this and OTHER things in the jewelry world, to see a resurgence of interest in pins/brooches. The ring reminds me of David Yurman's work in any case.

Harem and longer rise pants styles for MEN

sorry no pictures :(

i saw a couple of men in NYC wearing the longer leg pants and longer rise in DRESS PANTS. they were in the fashion district and looked pretty much like they might be pretty much whatever the male version of fashionistas is...
but i can honestly say i saw the style being worn on the street in the USA

(now being the product of my time that i am, i still cant quite get over the idea that their pants dont fit, but there it is)

in addition i saw several pants in stores that looked like VERY toned down versions of the men's harem pants. it was subtle (not like the runway) but blousy, almost pajama style pants being sold with the looser flowing shirts styles.. the same store had a shorter trench coat like we have been seeing.

slightly off topic jewelry

I know its not Italian, nor is it specific to our discussion, but we ARE coming up on Britain soon...

Color!

This week we touched on a couple of trends but color was a Major one. In a trend report from Style.com it called it Hyper Color saying that "We can't remember a season in which fashion has wrapped its arms around color like it has for Spring!...Color is major, referencing periods from the 60's,70's,80's and early 90's!!!

wingtip shoes in local store

i tried to post this before, but apparently it got eaten.... i was at King Of Prussia this weekend and went "wingtip hunting". as predicted it was an easy hunt.

what i found interesting was the variety of styles of shoes that had wingtip designs. Here you see them in a loafer/docker variant, a suede sneaker looking variant, and one that brings in the "workboot" trend. (in addition to the more usual styles).

In addition all of these had some degree of "up toe" and many had the pointed square toe.

this was most notable in the Italian shoes.

Victorian goth and Steampunk home decor/apparel

http://www.modvic.com/
i had the interesting privilege of being at the same show with this company http://www.backhometothefutureshow.com/ and since home decor and apparel often cross influence each other i thought this would be of interest. Mod Vic is considered a cross over home decor company from Victorian to Steampunk.

http://www.bruteforceleather.com/store/Scripts/default.asp is another company i deal with often. they started out in corsets, basic clothing, and some fetish wear. they now have a growing business in steampunk accessories. http://www.bruteforceleather.com/store/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=40

Steampunk is currently a very hot rising style trend in certain subcultures. steampunk refers to the blending of Victorian style, with technology. It can range from very subtle (mostly Victorian) to very overt (exposed gears, working or not, exposed tubing, cyborg looking parts).

In a bad case someone takes an otherwise ordinary design and throws a gear print on it and calls it "steampunk" but there are very good people working in this style in all fields (accessories, clothing, home decor, etc).

some of the subtler trends you see look an awful lot like someone mixed Victorian (corset, monocle, vests, long skirts, etc) with punk rock.

In more mainstream clothing we see this in the rising popularity of victorian style (monocle, pince nez, corset) being used with modern technology (like a very antique victorian looking pouch designed to hold your android phone)

this style is gaining ground in jewelry, especially. with mock gear parts now being sold by mainstream suppliers to the hobiest and trade like Fire Mountain Gems, Rio Grande, and more

This week we talked about wingtip shoes being on trend. I was in Urban Outfitters and noticed female versions but in a funkier, more feminine way. A couple pairs were from Frye and Jeffrey Campell who are both know for their footwear. All of them were oxfords and a couple had the raised sole in the front, which is on trend as well!
