HEMP BRAIDING IS BACK!!

This season you will begin to see this trend (hemp braiding) more often. Many designers continue to populate this material in footwear more than usual. (Ronald Lathern)

achromatics and white

i have been seeing a lot more white on runways and in stores, and while you always see more white for summer, i dont recall it being quite so widespread...
http://www.refinery29.com/summer-fashion-2011-white-summer-clothing#slide-1

note especially the ruffle, high neckline and shoulder and leg emphasis on this dress...
and it is basically a muted achromatic plaid.. slightly oversized.

We learned about Japan today in class, and in one collection for women there was a few dark gothic like garments that had used sheer fabrics to cover up their women parts. Last night at the MTV Movie Awards actress Emma Stone was seen wearing an outfit very similar to what we have been seeing. Many other actress' were seen wearing deconstructed outfits, that were very interesting to look at! They can all be seen on people.com - Chelsea Parker

Along with mixing patterns, Japan also did a lot of color blocking in women's and men's high end.I was on the Internet and found a designer by the name of Prabal Gurung. He's originally from Nepal and studied at New Delhi's National Institute of Fashion Technology. He later went to Parson's and interned for Donna Karen, and also worked for Cynthia Rowley and Bill Bass.He just recently launched his own label a couple years ago, so he's new to the seen. Here's some of his Spring 2011collection displaying the color blocking trend. Whitney Cofer

In class today we looked at Japan and their trends. We saw collections from Eley Kishimoto, who is Yohi Yammamoto's daughter and how she mixed patterns in her pieces. Here some pieces from Urban Outfitters that show this trend.Whitney Cofer

Today in class we learned about Japanese designers. One I found interesting was Muji. Muji is a japanese designer but also a concept store. They sell any and everything for the life style of the fashion forward fashionista or fashionish Bro. Check out some of the pix.

Layering... Says by Alexander Wang

Have you ever noticed that fashion designer Alexander Wang does not use too much colors in his fashion line? Well that certainly is the case once again for the designer. In the images above, Alexander Wanf uses only soft colors such as ivory, white, grey, etc. He always uses the color black, which is also seen a lot in his line. Alexander Wang believe that the fashion trend for the season isnt really bright color like everyone has been using lately, but instead laying. He layers all of his garments and makes them oversized. He also pairs his looks with socks to give it that bohemian feel. Alexander Wang is a uniqe designer. When the fashion world is all going Left, Alexander finds a way to go right make it look GREAT!!

Last time we were in class we talked about Spain trends and Ion Fiz was MAJOR, when it came to women's and men's high end. He played with with deconstruction, asymmetry and soft fabrics.Everything in his collection was soft, flowy and very on trend. Whitney Cofer

unusual materials

I thought this shoe showed a few trends we have seen lately.
unusual use of materials
sculptural looks in fabrics
heel plus platform (not so much, but some)
lace/ultra feminine styling
up toe

also it will look "nearly nude" due to the skin showing through the lace.

When it comes to color, electric blue, tomato red, and mustard yellow are the go to colors for the spring, summer and even fall season!! Whitney Cofer

The 60s Inspiration for Furnitures

This wood craving chair shows a soft curve line throughout the whole item. I think this is the most special chair I have ever seen.

The Tribal Look

A look which started with Yves Saint Laurent's legendary safari jump suits has been re-interpreted this season, and designers from Christopher Kane to Paul Smith have looked to Africa and the Orient for their muse. Tribal themes can be seen with the strong use of animal prints at Christopher Kane, in cheetah and leopard print tops, combined with geometric shaped skirts in earthy hues such as grass green. Turbans also crop up again and again, another simple way to update your wardrobe for this season's fascination with global fashion.

childrens 60s/70s look

this fits into the Spain trends for children with the hippie look, and pastel blue with the printed skirts and hair wear: is in for the season.

i dont think this one will catch on...

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/05/28/BUHK1JGGBA.DTL&feed=rss.business

they are elongated toe boots... and they ARE up toes.. but i dont think these are on trend...

based on a medieval shoe crossed with a cowboy boot, they have actually been catching on as a trend in a few nightclubs. (well they are in that red color...)

Bold orange

Sunny orange for summer! But it is still fresh and feminine, so it is taking over the run way for the spring summer collection. The mininalistic colors are so out and its time to be bold. If your looking to bring out your summer fashion, then paint your closet orange...because its so in.
