RTW 2014 Shavon Lewis

The same trends continue. We have seen it time and time again. The suit is what suits us best.

We can't get away from them, so what keeps them here? After doing some research i have found that a suit is the uilding lock for looking good. i'm not quite sold o that thought from the editors of GQ, I do agree with some of their  other points. The suit is definitely a timeless classic that can clean every ones look up. Although after knowing that is this a continous item that we want to see on the runway. With the fashion world not having any "style" rules right now, are designers playing the safe card? hmmmm?

Comme Des Garcons- Shavon Lewis

Follow your HEART

After 31 years Comme Des Garcons is still the #1 Japanese streetwear brand. As streetwear grows, Comme Des Garcons stays ahead of the game serving up dishes that you would never think of. Where else can you find a well tailored shirt with 3 sleeves? Or a sweater with moth holes throughout. I have yet to come across a designer who makes a crooked hem look good. These are the wrong things that i find so lovable about Comme Des Garcons. If you haven't see these things, then you must e familiar with the bug eyed heart. This is their subdivision lie that has this famous logo seen throughout pop culture and streetwear brands everywhere

The Wedding from Spain bl

Simplistic beauty is undeniable. Couture designers have stayed true to their Spanish tradition. Wedding dresses walked down the catwalk in original white to a soft innocent pink. The popular dresses all had a mid to deep plunge v in the back. The accessories and headdresses were loud, but in the soft way. They command the room, but they do not overtake it. Would you dare?

Tribal Print

Tribal Print is a big trend for this season. You can see it in many runways from Valentino, Givenchy, and Alexander McQueen. Many of the Spring-Summer 2014's collections were influenced by hints of folklore. Rich embroidery, tribal jewelry, drapery and graphic prints.

Geometric shapes

Throughout the semester learning about each individual country from clothing to accessories and to even retail spaces I found that they in common some qualities in their retail spaces. Majority of them had wood floors fixtures, and had geometric shapes on walls or as fixtures and the spacing was very clean and spacious.

Hightops

High-top sneaker Men's - RAF SIMONS
This past week learning about the trends in Holland and Belgium I noticed a trickle up theory with the high top shoes. The first shoe above in the blue is an Adidas sneaker where the other two are shoes from a famous designer Kris Van Assche and Raf Simons. These shoes look very similar from each other but the biggest difference is the price where you have the Adidas shoe at $75 and $513 all the way up to $735!

3D Isn't Just For the Movies -Courtney Crowley

3D printing for clothing and accessories has become very popular throughout Belgian designers.  We saw the different stages Iris Van Herpen went through to create her 3D dress.  It takes a lot of work and patience but the end result was like nothing we have ever seen before in fashion.  Technology has gotten so advanced and designers are starting to take advantage of this.

Belgians Do It Bigger & Better -Courtney Crowley

This week we learned that Belgian fashion is more extreme and lavish than many other country's fashion.  Throughout the quarter we have talked about the different trends and looks of numerous countries and I have to say that Belgium won my vote!  The Belgian fashion designers take the same basic idea of other designers but they take their designs above and beyond.  A few of my favorite Belgian designers are Ann Demeulemeester, Viktor & Rolf, Haider Ackermann and Dries Van Noten.  The list could go on and on!  I love their out of the box ideas and creativity in the pieces.

Airy and Etheral for Spring

Spring 2014 is all about pastels! Although Chanel is French fashion house and Burberry Prorsum is a British fashion house they are following the same trends. Sheer is huge for Sprig this year and both designers are doing that in different ways. Chanel has a beautiful sheer shimmery material while Burberry Prorsum is using more of a pastel lace. Both collections are absolutely beautiful in their own way while following the same trend.

Real Men Wear Floral

Givenchy's Spring 2014 RTW collection is floral all over. Men are showing their feminine side with these pastel, airy prints. Givency mix matches these prints in such a way that they have a feminine feel with a masculine edge. He pairs them with an army print and a flannel which are two very masculine prints. That with the floral is the perfect mix of masculine and feminine. Floral is a huge trend for men this spring not only in clothing but in shoes and accessories. The shoes are also a chunky sandal with a white sole which is also on trend as well as layering.....and the pink hair is an awesome touch!

Sporty Spice

Sneakers are no longer the go-to for giving a sporty look. We are expected to see lots of tracksuit inspired ensembles. Unlike the Run DMC days, these outfits are being paired with heels to add a feminine touch.

Dries Does It All

We've been seeing major florals and hemlines rising with many designers for this upcoming Spring season. Here, Dries Van Noten masters a few things: florals for men, mixing bold patterns, ankle-length pants, above-the-knee shorts, and even a sporty look with the jersey-inspired top. I'd say Dries nailed many trends that are surfacing, without overdoing it!

This look is from Prada Spring 2014 rtw collection. The art pop trend is making it's appearance in this look along with the neutral colors. Also building on more trends that we have talked about in class, the sports trend is also apparent from the striped leg warmers that almost remind me of soccer gear. The tomato red bag is also a big trend that we see here as a pop of color. Layering is also a big trend and in seen in the look by Prada.

Dandy and Delightful - Courtney Crowley

It's romantic.  It's elegant.  It's dainty.  So can a man pull it off?  Of course her can! Who says the modern man can't wear a silk evening scarf or a full suit to dinner?  Designers like Haider Ackermann prove to us that men will not have to sacrifice their domineering masculinity while wearing and elegant silk tie. Roberto Cavalli styled a kick ass suit and cumberbun with a pair of studded spiked loafers.  D Squared toned this silk jacket down with a pair of casual cropped slacks.  I think this is a trend our men need to embrace!

All Black Everything

This is a look from Milly Spring 2014 Collection by Michelle Smith. We talked in class about how all black is in for Spring. This artsy look is is on trend with color, sillhouette, fabrics, and design. The mash sheering of the fabric is really big for spring especially paired with the solid shorts and top area. We are also seeing a lot of interesting neccklines like the one shown here.

Ruffles & Oversized look

The past presentations were representing trends in France. A trend that captured my eye was Ruffles.

Here we have clothing designed by Gucci, Balenciaga and Chloe whose collections were all full of frill.

One of my favorite trends that I saw is the over sized look. You can't loose with this trend with the baggy relaxed look but also stylish at the same time.

Here we have an oversized wool sweater in cute face designed by Sonia Rykiel

Oscar Trends

Throughout the quarter we've been learning plenty of different trends some that keep repeating every week in different countries and some not. This past week at the Oscars I saw metallic and pastel colors. Jennifer Lawrence and Larry David
Here we have Jennifer Lawrence swapping her Dior Oscars dress for a metallic Tom Ford cocktail dress with mirrored embellishments.

Pastel Dresses

Pastel colors were a big hit. Here we have Lupita Nyong'o's wearing a powder blue silk pleated gown by Prada featuring a deep V-neck bodice and low-cut sides. Also standing out on the red carpet in light colors were Camila Alves in a pale pink Gabriela Caden gown and Penelope Cruz, in a blush Giambattista Valli gown.

Flowers Aren't Just For Ladies -Courtney Crowley

A big trend we are seeing in men's fashion is floral prints.  They are no longer just a print for women's wear.  The floral prints vary in color -- dark floral pattern, vibrant floral colors or neutral floral prints.  Mixing and matching prints is also a big trend in menswear.  Whether you are mixing different floral patterns together or mixing a floral with a striped pattern, it is a fun way for men to explore their style.  I have seen this floral pattern on everything -- shirts, jackets, pants, shorts, ties, scarves, I think this is a great trend for men and it really expands their traditional neutral color palette, I love it!

Oxford Chic
The oxford shirt is taking on a new form. Whether you are wearing one unbuttoned or buttoned, as a dress or a shirt, Oxfords are everywhere. The Oxford shirt is the key garment to complete the modern women look.

Stella Mccartney is a Trend Chaser !

Stella Mccartney is showing us all the hot trends in her Spring 2014 collection. Here we have pastels such as washed out pinks and powder blues, menswear inspired pieces such as the single breasted blazers and high waisted trousers, also the pants come to ankle length which is very on trend. She also uses oversized blazers and dress which is also seen a lot in Spring 2014. There is also a shine to the material used in the blazer which gives it a metallic feel. I love these looks... Stella Mccartney really utilized what is on trend and makes it simple, elegant, beautiful, and wearable.

The menswear influence: Street Style

So we have been seeing this in the latest runway shows, but lets take a look at the source. The streets of course. Once again everyday people are inspiring the biggest names in the business. Within this collage we can see plenty of the trends that we have talked about in class. The main one is the androgyny, secondly the metallic, white soles on shoes, leather.... and the list goes on. Women are taking the menswear aesthetic and are doing it better. What would you say ladies? The women have created a sexy look, that also has comfort and ease within it. So what do you think. Will you be rocking this trend, or perhaps you are one of the inspirations behind it? hmmm
Some street style found at Paris fashion week 2014.

Achromatics steal the show! By Shavon Lewis

Celebrities shine in achromatic styles that rock the runway. These tones are not only in
stores, they are influencing fashion. Can we say trickle up theory? Neutrals, blacks, whites, and washed out pinks were definitely a hit last night. Who was your favorite?
