Celebrity

In these various pictures I feel they have some similarities to the subjects in the trend sites we viewed in class on 10/11/10. The first picture with Lala Vazques portrays the check mate trend. I feel that her outfit is very suddle and the white helps to bring out her shirt which is in this stripped pattern. The second picture of Rhianna shows the lace with some paisley trends on her dress and the last picture would portray the preppy polo look. As well as the glasses that Lala and the guy in the polo trend are wearing also fit into a trend of this round and square bottom frame like Ray Bans.

shoe trend

Last night my friend came over to show me the shoes that she just got, Steve Madden booties and Kenneth Cole Reaction pumps. After looking at them for a little bit I realized that they fit into the trend category that we were talking about on week 1. The shoes are not wing tipped, but both of the shoes slightly rise up in the front just like all the shoes we looked at on our first week. The shoes that we looked at in class were men shoes, so this isn't just a trend in men shoes it is also a trend in women shoes. -Jennifer Little

Billy Reid

After class on Monday I decided to research the designers that I wasn’t familiar with and Billy Reid really caught my attention. Here are a few pictures from his Fall 2010 collection, which translates the “New Labor” trend to perfection! Check out the full collection HERE.

Thom Browne designs a women's line

Thom Browne to Show Womenswear in New York in February

It was a dirty trick when Thom Browne moved his show from New York to Paris, taking the most fun show of our Fashion Week overseas where we can't enjoy it in person or feel cool and weird for having it here. Well, fine, it was the right thing for his business, but we miss him. Thankfully, in February, he'll be back — to put on his first full-fledged womenswear show! The ladies' portion of his business is expanding and will sell at Harrods and Dover Street Market in London. "I’m ready now, I know what to do. The show will be very much like my men’s wear ones — not traditional," he explained. "It all starts with a tailored point of view." If he's turned men into mermaid warriors and raccoon hats, you can only imagine what he'll do with chicks. Tennis-playing earthen cuttlefish?

The WingTip Comeback

Wingtips have always been a popular style for men, but according to the current trends, they have become just as trendy for women as well. Many stores such as Urban Outfitters offer a large variety of different styles of the wingtip shoe/oxford. It is interesting to me to see a shoe such as these have such a strong impact on popular culture the way they have. I took a trip to J. Crew and I came across these pair of mens wingtips. I decided to focus on them due to the many designers and manufacturers we spoke of in week ones class J. Crew being one of them. - Hannah Elliott

"Oversize Me" - Albino

As discussed in the week 1 Trends and Concepts lecture, the "oversize" trend has made its presence on the Spring/Summer 2011 catwalks. Notably, Italian designer Albino D'amato and business partner Gianfranco Fenizia delivered a collection emulating the oversize look through large bow-ties, kimono tops and dramatic trapeze dresses.

The oversize kimono sleeve and floppy hat pair contrast to the skinny crop pant. Albino also showcases a maxi trapeze dress with large, bold color blocking. Oversize bow-ties at the waist and on the toe of the right shoe give a touch of slight avant-garde styling. These three looks by the Italian designer, Albino, prove that oversize is the way to be.

Just thought this website will really be useful in following classes! I stumbled upon it researching for the Trends and Concepts book. It provides fashion trends , news, and events. Enjoy !

Spring 2011 DVF

I couldn't wait to get on style.com and look up the previous shows from Fashion Night. I found that for Spring 2011 pattern play is a huge trend and very different prints! Diane von Furstenberg as she is known for her colorful prints, is really setting the pattern play trend for the upcoming season. Check out the full collection, I really thought every piece was innovative and are definitely going to set trends!
