the Native American Look

Native American look is coming back with the influence of
current style: drop crotch, slouchy pants, extra fabrics and the
red, blue colors with prints. The length of the poncho is longer.

Bright Colors

I was on mediatakeout this morning and i came across a series of photos of recording artist Esperanza Spalding and the color palette that she had on reminded me of Agatha Ruiz De La Prada. There were lots of pinks, greens blues, and so forth. Take a look! http://cdn.mediatakeout.com/48558/natural_beauty_grammy_award_winner_esperanza_spalding_rocks_her_natural_hair_in_new_modeling_pics.html

-Chelsea Parker

I was reading Meiatakeout.com, as I do daily and saw Rhianna is this sheer, all white men's shirt with a long white jacket and pants that are fitted at the ankle. White, as we seen last week in class is the new trend and so is the deconstruction of men's shirts!

Bohemian Disaster

I took a picture of a disply in Forver21 last week and thought it was very funny. As we learned in the begining of the quarter the bohemian trend is currently in style. Im not sure what the person who dressed these manaquins was thinking but it sure is one bohemian disaster!

History Repeats its Self

The image on the bottom is the Original Ferragamo Wedge that was created in 1938. I was internet shopping when I ran accross the shoes that are on top of the Original Ferragamo Image, which are created by new shoes designer Jeffery Campbell. History sure does repeat its self, and so does shoes!!!

just a quick mention

while working at the school craft fair on friday, i saw a passerby with an orla kiley bag... i recognized the pattern immediately. i asked her about it and she said a store "a couple blocks down chestnut street" sold them. i am sad that i didnt catch the store name...

article full of names and pictures from Vogue

This article about Anne Hathaway and a Vogue shoot was noteworthy because it mentions so many names we covered in class.

"As she strolls through the store, wearing blue patent leather Sonia Rykiel flats, a flouncy Zara skirt, and a short-sleeved Lanvin T-shirt with a pink silk rose on the shoulder that on her somehow look all-American, "

she wears "3.1 Phillip Lim, Rag & Bone, and If Six Was Nine to CĂ©line and Isabel Marant."

"Tonight, she has an Annie Hall look—black Helmut Lang pants and an Elizabeth and James vest over a white Vivienne Westwood blouse, untucked, topped off by a straw fedora to keep people from recognizing her."

Similar Styles

Today in class we discussed Belgium/Holland, one designer out of the many that we discussed today that stuck out to me was Walter Van Beirendonck. What stuck out to me was on of his garments that is in this link http://www.waltervanbeirendonck.com/HTML/home.html?/HTML/COLLECTIONS/WINTER20112012/AW1112.html&1 that i also saw Kourtney Kardashian wearing. Funny how designers knock off other designers! Heres the link with Kourtney wearing something similar http://www.peoplestylewatch.com/people/stylewatch/gallery/0,,20049306,00.html#20925647

Transformer Dresses

I know in class we talked about Hussein Chalyan and before class a friend of mine sent me this link to youtube and said that she thought of me right away and had to show me. I'm excited I finally found out who it was last week. I think it's great how even when he came out in the 90s he was brilliant with is work. Especially his wooden corset top.

Long Live the Great, Alexander McQueen

Today in class we learned about U.K. designers. But no one in the class spoke about the Late and Great, Alexander McQueen. Mr.McQueen's collection is out of this world!!!! From his detailed work on his dresses, or exaggerated shoes, all of Mr.McQueen work is absolutely beautiful. This a few weeks ago, Kate Middelton (The new Princess) chose to wear Alexander McQueen's bridal gown for her wedding. She looked absolutely wonderful. The fashion world was hit very hard when the news of McQueen's death. But his Beautiful clothes will live on =)

Floral Prints

In class this past week we talked about how a trend for womens apparel in the U.K. is floral prints. I was looking at the Guess website and they have an entire section dedicated to feminine floral prints. It looks as if we are surrounded by this trend as it's not only in the U.K. They came just in time for spring!

THAT blue, and achromatics

the window display was almost all achromatic, with the ONLY color being items in that specific blue. the contrast was intriguing

all over the mall i also saw long skirts, or maxi dresses being offered...

store design

i was in King Of Prussia Plaza and looking around i noticed this store:

note the fact that in the mall setting it looked VERY much like you were walking into someone's home (if they lived in a mansion) and the white with black (and pink) accents.. it really reminded me of what we had been seeing in class...

Australian Street Fashion

Australia seems to affected more by the British style. The wide - bell bottom is coming back with a sheer shirt. We know the print is hot now, but a picture print for a skirt is definitely new. Even the platform shoes is having the print.

Royal Blues, Burnt Oranges and so much more.

It seems like Royal blues, and Burnt Oranges are making their way through the fashion scene.Along with high slits in dresses. Countless celebrities were seen rocking the burnt orange, royal blues, and some shades of purple and slits up the thigh . I remember in class on Monday we were seeing these colors popping up in a few different collections repeatedly as well as the slits. Here's some links to some of the celebrities http://www.peoplestylewatch.com/people/stylewatch/gallery/0,,20159269,00.html#20939452

slideshow of wedding fashions from Elle

the slideshow is from elle, and shows a lot of the wedding guests at the British Royal Wedding. one thing that is very useful is that it often shows the entire ensemble, from shoes to hat.

also it names designers in several cases!

more on weddings and hats

the great hat scandal.... sort of.

as everyone has certainly found out, violating a written rule of conduct or clothing is bad, but violating an UNWRITTEN one will get you a lot of bad press and speculation.

you showed up in jeans when the invite said "black tie" tsk..tsk...you didnt wear a hat at a royal wedding when the official rules said "hats optional" OMG! the world is ending, its a political message!

Samantha Cameron, wife of the Prime Minister didn't wear a "hat" to the wedding, but did wear a jeweled hair ornament. From the press reaction you would have thought she showed up wearing a rude T shirt that insulted the country. editorials ranged from assumptions that it was a deliberate dis to the royals, over to the more reasoned reaction that this was "obviously done to spite her husband" politically and socially. the specter of divorce was discussed repeatedly...

because she didnt wear a hat...
at a hat optional event.

she is STILL in the news today, although with more people defending her choice.

hats, obviously still a VERY big deal in England....

obligatory wedding post

almost all of the hats that got "media time" at the wedding (including Beckham's and the two princesses) were from Philip Treacy.

love his work or hate it, he sure does make attention getting hats!

Paisley Prints

The other week we talked about sheer fabric, a lot of fabric, and designers having their own recognizable prints.

This one is by Emilio Pucci, which is a Pucci print, sheer and has a lot of flowy fabric.

This is Missoni who created this print for their Spring 2011 collection. It also has a lot of fabric involved in this design and has sheer fabric peeking out the bottom.
