While looking on WWD at this article we are already starting to see some trends now. The bright colors of pink and green along with the style of hat used.

The New Creative Director of Alexander McQueen
Sorry Gareth Pugh, but Sarah Burton is now the new creative director of Alexander McQueen. She has been working there for almost 15 years and was credited with finishing his AW '10 collection after his suicide, and will "stay true to his legacy." Glad Gucci didn't let the label lay dormant...

Animal Jewelry
This jewelry was too fun to pass up! All of the jewelry is made of at least 18-karat gold and includes diamonds or other precious stones. Although this jewelry is super expensive it is a lot of fun and very unique.

Cotton is getting more expensive
This article talks about how cotton is becoming more expensive due to many factors. With such a largely used textile it's hard to imagine what a shortage could do to us.

Table Hopping | Ralph’s in Paris
"The purpose of in-store dining is, of course, to reinforce the emotional content of a brand by marinating your customer in your art de vivre, and in these terms, Ralph’s is an extremely clever place."

Gaultier Takes Couture To Moscow
Jean Paul Gaultier staged his first couture show in Russia last Friday night, in the gilded hall of one of the Russian capital’s busiest train stations. The summer collection was on display as well as a few select retrospective pieces. J.Lo for Vogue Italia!!
Talk about Italian flare! I know some of the names are younger than Gene would like, but Gucci's dress (1st look) I thought was stunning with the skeletal notions on the side giving an awesome interpretation of the ribcage, and not to mention paired with her short fingered gloves; definitely a great example of the 3rd Era of Modern Fashion where all styles of dress have become legitimate, in this case mixing the twist on the classic LBD with the hard, edginess of the black leather gloves. Check out the wide, exaggerated double layered peter pan collar paired with the skin tight, high waisted short taken from the 50's bathing suits in the 2nd look. Big retro inspired glasses are in the 3rd look which we have been seeing week to week. AND the last look is to die for, I love the big 80s inspired chain necklace that's been shortened, the nude embellished heels with a contrasting black platform and heavily embellished and detailed dress!!
It's only 2 min. long so check it out, it goes by real fast.
Hope you enjoy!

Liberty to launch men's line
Liberty of London has teamed with the Italian manufacturer Slowear Group to launch a 200 piece men's wear line. This is Liberty of London's first licensing pact and will be release in June as the Spring 2011 collection. This is a huge step for Liberty, providing the company with international transformation. The collection will include the Liberty of London's well know prints but will be transformed by an Italian design team to give it " a modern sartorial-meets-swinging London" vibe. Eventually Liberty of London will do the same with the women's wear line. This new men's wear collection will be seen in store's in the U.S, UK, Italy, and Asia.

The Antwerp Six
So what exactly is the "Antwerp Six" and how did they come to be? The Antwerp Six is a group of six avant-garde fashion designers with a very distinct vision. These six designers, Walter Van Beirendonk, Ann Demeulemeester, dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Marina Yee all attended and graduated from Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1980. The official "breakthrough" happened in 1988 when the team rented a truck and set out for the London Fashion Fair and later traveled into Paris with their collections. After this "breakthrough" these great designers along with their radical vision officially put Antwerp, Belgium on the map as a notable fashion location.

Haute Macabre- It Wasn't Just a Phase
For anyone interested in beautiful fashion with a dark side-
Haute Macabre is a blog that is dedicated to high fashion with an extremely artistic and non-conventional twist. It showcases clothing, fashion photography, designers, and accessories with a Gothic taste. Most of the fashions shown are a little extreme and definitely different, But some of the work is so outstandingly beautiful, I'm sure even the most simple cut-and-dry designers can find something they like. People tend to hear the word "Gothic" and misinterpret it for the silly Hot Topic goth-like trends we all hate to remember from high school. This is what is to be considered true gothic, with a simple, muted color palate, sharp style and hemlines, daring and unique designs, and that edgy, just a little dark, and really pop.
Take a step outside the box, check it out <3

(4 Way) Butterfly Bow Ties!
Just came across this and I thought the concept behind it was awesome, and it's a definite revival in accessories for men. Check out the pictures and the great photo shoot of the bow ties as butterflies! They are reversible and can be worn in different ways (hence the alternate colors and fabrics in some of them). Sad that there was no information on where to purchase...yet.

Red, White, and Glamour
In class we have been learning all about different designers from different countries. Well, with these pictures we can actually see the stars wear the designs.
The Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute benefit was all about stateside roots this year, celebrating as it did the opening of American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity. Proceedings inside had a turn-of-the-century feel, with wicker chairs at the dinner tables and a hot-air balloon inspired by one from the 1893 Chicago World's Fair looming over the Great Hall.

Marchesa Fall 2010 Preview
Hey Guys-
So I found this sweet preview of Marchesa's Fall 2010 line, that i thought was pretty neat and original. The style is definitely true to the Marchesa style with the draping and fabric selections, but this particular line is extremely unique and original. The details and overall appeal of the line really caught my attention, and I felt that it was neat enough to share with you!

No Sweat
In 1908, something called the International Tract Society put out a slim exercise manual for working men that promised not hardened abs but “a graceful carriage.” “Flabby muscles,” the book said, signify “mental, if not moral, flabbiness.” Croquet should be “taken in moderation.” And sponge baths must “always be followed by vigorous friction.” The manualcame complete with a section titled “50 Exercises to Do With Your Suit On.” Here, we revisit some of the exercises like finger “flexions,” but we’ve updated the uniforms. And, fearing overexertion, we didn’t stray too far; the shoot was set inside the Renzo Piano-designed headquarters of The New York Times.

News for Fashion Week!
I watched the Cassette Playa's videos and she is definitely a mix between M.I.A. and McQueen. Her exagerated features about hair is something McQueen would do, from a previous show putting exagerated big lips on the models. And I think that M.I.A.'s influence is bringing street fashion into style and making it more desirable. I posted a link that I found on WWD, that says how fashion week's Lincoln Center will get an upgrade.

MAD MEN
Hey guys,
Here is an AWESOME link to five short videos that relate to trends and concepts. The videos are about the costumes, furniture/home accessories, make up/hair, and set production of the TV show mad men.
The video on costumes and the two videos on make up I found very exciting. Even though these concepts are from the 1940's, 50's , and 60's .. we all know that trends eventually come full circle (with some innovations).
These videos talk about the men's and women's character grooming for the show, for example lipstick and beards.
Mad Men is such a great show, with the amazing costumes, exciting plot, and a ton of product placement for you marketing majors.
I highly recommend it :)
