So what exactly is the "Antwerp Six" and how did they come to be? The Antwerp Six is a group of six avant-garde fashion designers with a very distinct vision. These six designers, Walter Van Beirendonk, Ann Demeulemeester, dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs, and Marina Yee all attended and graduated from Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1980. The official "breakthrough" happened in 1988 when the team rented a truck and set out for the London Fashion Fair and later traveled into Paris with their collections. After this "breakthrough" these great designers along with their radical vision officially put Antwerp, Belgium on the map as a notable fashion location.
