Gaultier Takes Couture To Moscow

Jean Paul Gaultier staged his first couture show in Russia last Friday night, in the gilded hall of one of the Russian capital’s busiest train stations. The summer collection was on display as well as a few select retrospective pieces. Here is the link for the pictures of the runway show: http://www.wwd.com/fashion-news/gaultier-takes-couture-to-moscow-3075784

  1. I wish there were more pictures, but from what I have viewed, the collection is beautifuly constructed. Also, the runway setting in coordination with the collection has a contrasting yet still cohesive. Basically, the combo compliments one another. Moscow is already a site to be seen, to add Gaultier just gives it a little bit more appeal. =) Good Article.

  2. Russia's pace of change is very quick and extremely evident especially throughout it's capital. It is no surprise Gaultier has begun to showcase his collections in Moscow, considering the luxury market yet to be covered in such a remote area. As poverty-stricken as Russia deems to be, there is also an extremely wealthy clientele group-very small of course, but definitely a market to uncover, also a country with such a significant portion of natural resources only justifies the steadfast pace the country is on, the money for a luxury market is already there-it is simply just a matter of time before Russia becomes prosperous. Numerous designers are starting to open stores in such isolated areas, which is totally intelligent within a business standpoint.
I loved the location of the show, the station was a totally great idea and how it corresponded with Gaultier's idea of his collection as a "journey", the collection itself was nothing short of amazing. There were incredible textiles ,the use of fur and embroidery was really awesome and the detailing on all pieces was beautiful. I think the line overall was cohesive and brilliant.
