Being Avant-garde, is a choice!

Irregular Choice! An avant-garde United Kingdom designer that specializes in accessories and footwear. My interests peeked when searching, viewing and gawking at the images of all these different designs that Irregular Choice had created. These designs in their footwear collections are extreme, new, original, bazar and yet appealing. The functionality of the shoes are not so everyday, however the thought of having a pair of outrageously designed heels, boots or even flats is something worth the money. And! The are not that expensive. =) Check it out, the links above, super bazar footwear, but real unique.

Trend in Italian women's foot wear picked up by American designer

A big trend in Italian women's shoes was the use of lucite in their designs. A widely popular style is the ballerina shoe. American designer Michael Kors has used lucite in his ballerina shoe making this ordinary shoe have an innovative twist. Click on the link to view this shoe.

Miss Sixty closing ten of their 20 U.S retail spaces

According to WWD the foreclosures that hurt residential real estate in 2008 and 2009 are likely to take its toll in commercial real estate, including retail, this year. Italian women's sportswear company Miss Sixty is presently feeling this hardship. They have already closed two retail spaces in Dallas and Honolulu and ten of its remaining twenty U.S locations are scheduled to close. Their 13,000 square foot retail space on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles which costs the company $50,000 a month in rent is one of the stores that will close. Hopefully Miss Sixty can turn around their financial situation and still hold a presence in the American market place.

After class last week, I realized that I had bought a jacket in Paris and it had a diagonal zipper. The picture is below. This jacket was actually on sale because it had been there for some time, so it makes sense that now the zipper trend is coming overseas. Also today while going up the steps from the train I noticed a man's messenger bag infront of me, and the logo looked familiar. It was Belstaff! It was kinda weird seeing it so soon after learning about this company.

Join the Army of Fashion

With the war in the Middle East the clothes of today are again being inspired by the military look. Just like the rest of the remakes the 1940's military look is revamped. Every designer from Balmain to Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton is focousing on the war of fashion.

The Trench Coat

I thought this was a fun video to share with everyone. Now is the "in-between" season, meaning you don't need a heavy jacket but you don't want to leave the house without one either and it is usually pretty rainy in the spring time as well. So here to solve all your problems in the trendy trench coat. They come in a variety of styles, colors, patterns and lengths. This video shows many different people on the streets of New York and how they chose to wear them.

The Whole Package...

Ladies and or Gents... Fashion is not al about the shirt, denim, mini-skirt or tank; you have to be or have the entire look to be known as "fabulous". To show what I mean, click on the link above. There are trends in makeup and hair as well. There is not one designer that won't agree, a runway is not complete without the entire look being cohesive, strong and appealing. Some of the trends in make-up and hair are repetitive but what makes them more interesting in the combinations of the outfit, accessories that make up that "look".

Natalie Portman: the first face you see from this link. She is stunning. But take notice to the hair how is compliments the eyes as you move down her face you see the lip color and how is accents the ruby color of her earrings. It flows, looks faltering and actually gives her a porcelain glow but with some sass.

Image 5 of 12 is J.Lo... The effortless look that you know had to take forever and was costly, but you and I at home with some Easy, Breezy & BEAUTIFUL CoverGirl can imitate this look. Add our vintage bought clutch and some 20% off gown from Lord & Taylor 3 seasons ago.

Effortless is the new trend with... maybe a little exaggeration in color here and there to spice it up a bit. Heavens for bid we all look the same. What's the fun in that?

Digital Prints

Since we talked about floral prints in class this past week, I wanted to show that printed matter has undergone a digital revolution. Te new millennium has witnessed a dramatic change in the way that a pattern is developed to follow the shape of the body and to overlay actual images with virtual versions. The cauldron of cyberspace wizardry has bubbled up in London, and the effects - torrents of color, turbulent whorls of pattern, violent clashes - often look more like a wild weather chart than the more familiar prints charming. This is from the International Herald Tribune.

Belstaff

I enjoyed the videos on Belstaff, in particular the Belstaff fashion file which talked about the history of the company and how it has been around since the 1930's. I was turned off; however, from the mentioning of Che Guevara because he is one of the most racist leaders in history who has become one of the most recognizable pop icons in today's culture.

Miu Miu Fall/Winter '10

As I was tinkering around websites of Italian Designers for my project, I came across the Fall/Winter Collection for Women's Ready-to-Wear on Miu Miu's site. It is the first thing that you see, a video of the show! Probably, with out a doubt one of the neatest ideas for a runway. I am not fond of some pieces out of this collection, however the shoes are what caught my attention initially besides the runway design.

I was always told that model's should not walk to the beat of the music, incase of any technical difficulties and they happen to loose focus. However, these models seemed to be consistent with the beat, walked at a faster pace and with that combo allowed the shoes against the mirror like runway to pop, catching my attention. I watched the entire show twice. Once for the shoes and second for the actual collection.

Overall, the collection's aesthetics were interested and not too over done. Some of the textiles used mid-runway, right after the garments with a few pops of orange and purple did not appeal to me. Please check it out though. The layout of the runway is the coolest part. When watching it you won't be able to tell what is going on in the flow of models, but you will a quarter way through. Enjoy!!!! Give feed back, even if it differs from mine! Oh! While watching it, check out the model that messed up in the orange coat or dress, I am blanking on the silhouette but she totally did finish out her walk and almost ran into another model. snicker... =)

While researching US retail spaces for my Trends and Concepts class I came across this awesome pair of women's shoes. I'm not sure what one would call this shoe, a bootie, pump, or maybe even a tri-stiletto? :)

This shoe was designed by Acne, a Swedish based designer. Even though we will not be covering Swedish designers in class due to time, I had to share this amazing shoe because I have never seen a heel like this before and thought it was pretty cool and different.

Veronique Branquinho for Camper

Queen of Antwerp creates a man’s derby shoe. The price isn’t so bad but they don’t look to comfy. They look very innovative with some tweaking. The style reminds me of Aldo http://www.aldoshoes.com/country Price $390-$425. Check out www.camper.com for me information.

A Band of Outsiders or A Band of Trend Setters?

Like discussed in class, fashion isn't all about the Calvin's, Polo RL or Gucci; fashion goes beyond the cliche labels that seem to be a warped cloud that swarms the brain's of our society. So, with that being said let us take a look at what "is" fashion and what those "fashion designers" claim as their own originals.

There is a fashion collection/line that had intrigued me during a class lecture. A Band of Outsiders has their Spring 2010 collection on NY Mag's website in the Fashion section. This line is one that I grew very fond of the more I looked at it. The line is very straight edged and muted/staple colors seem to be of focus, but the way in which the textures are accented with how the pieces are paired allows these design's aesthetic to stand out. Simple, Sweet with Attitude and a bit of an edge.

Check it out: If I stand alone then cool, everyone has their opinions, but the mid-thigh shorts on a man is kind of attractive, I must admit. Also, on a side note... H&M has similar pieces that are seen throughout this collection in stores now, something to take into consideration walking back from class on Chestnut St!
