A Band of Outsiders or A Band of Trend Setters?

Like discussed in class, fashion isn't all about the Calvin's, Polo RL or Gucci; fashion goes beyond the cliche labels that seem to be a warped cloud that swarms the brain's of our society. So, with that being said let us take a look at what "is" fashion and what those "fashion designers" claim as their own originals.

There is a fashion collection/line that had intrigued me during a class lecture. A Band of Outsiders has their Spring 2010 collection on NY Mag's website in the Fashion section. This line is one that I grew very fond of the more I looked at it. The line is very straight edged and muted/staple colors seem to be of focus, but the way in which the textures are accented with how the pieces are paired allows these design's aesthetic to stand out. Simple, Sweet with Attitude and a bit of an edge.

Check it out: If I stand alone then cool, everyone has their opinions, but the mid-thigh shorts on a man is kind of attractive, I must admit. Also, on a side note... H&M has similar pieces that are seen throughout this collection in stores now, something to take into consideration walking back from class on Chestnut St!

  1. When thinking of items that don't have brand names, Ten Thousand Villages comes to mind. It is a company that sells products made by people in Third world countries to the U.S. and Canada. I got my mom this ornament for Christmas.

Although not everything has a brand name on it, your 'non brand name' piece may be one of a kind.

  2. I was uber excited that we covered brands that weren't "Betsey Johnson and Oscar de la Renta" fashion goes beyond the familiar names...One particular unknown brand that I'm obsessed with is Vince. Vince has basic items such as; tanks, sweaters, tees, which are staples to every woman’s wardrobe. Vince is especially known for their unbelievable cashmere! With the downfall of the economy you can never go wrong with buying something that you can wear with everything and that will last you for years to come! You can check Vince out at shopbop.com or at the Barneys Co-Op right on Walnut! Enjoy=)

  3. I enjoyed the change of not focusing on the designers that are always talked about. However fashionable clothing doesn't always have to come at a high price, Cheap Monday has affordable jeans and tops that are comfortable and trendy.I am always looking for good jeans that fit right, and most pairs are around 190 dollars; Cheap Monday jeans sell for around 65 dollars. Shopbop sells Cheap Mondays line; check it out!

  5. I love looks 19 & 23 from the slide show. The bottoms were very innovative and still something that the everyday person can wear. And look 23 was just amazing, definitely something for the season with some classic pieces that can be worn year round. I love how they made the boat shoe that is typically a low-top into high-tops. And the men's ombre shirt on look 8 is incredible!

  6. I really love their whole collection idea for the spring. What i liked most about the collection though were the jackets and blazers for both men and women. The jacket in photo slide 15 and 16 that the woman is wearing is one of my favorite and think it is perfect for the spring season because it is long enough in case the weather is chill but short enough in case the weather is warm. Same goes for the 3/4 length sleeve. I would wear it!
